Our History

McCranie's was founded by our father, Tom McCranie, in 1979 at Charlotte, North Carolina. His vision of creating a traditional pipe and tobacco shop, and serving as a full service tobacconist, while incorporating an atmosphere that is relaxed and inviting is continuing today. He instilled this philosophy from day one and it has sustained the business to the present. Acclaimed by his peers in the industry as having the knowledge and expertise in the field of pipes, tobaccos, and cigars, our father is a true tobacconist.

While there is no school to attend in order to gain this expertise, we have apprenticed for many years under Dad and have expanded the service and philosophy of providing the dedicated pipe and cigar smoker with the worlds best products. There are many out there with no access to a good tobacconist and our mail order service is tailored to bring our shop to you.

We have cultured and maintained genuine relationships with the world's best manufacturers of high-grade pipes and premium cigars and tobaccos. We maintain a large inventory of pipes in all price ranges.

Our specialty is in high-grade pipes with thousands from which to choose. A pipe is your friend and companion and to fully enjoy the smoking pleasure from the briar, McCranie's offers a wide variety of quality tobaccos. Our walk-in Spanish cedar humidor pampers our cigar selection with perfect conditions.This gives us the ability to offer you, the customer, the education and presentation of the finest the world has to offer.

We have seen much through the years of change since 1979, but our focus remains to build our business slowly one customer at a time, so that the foundation is strong and your referring us is the material by which it is built.
